Broadcast TV Fall Recap, What Shows Were Canceled?
Broadcast TV Fall Recap
We’re entering the holiday lull in the broadcast season. It’s unlikely that information will appear that would change any existing predictions before early 2023, so this will be the last post until 2023. Happy Holidays!
Here’s a recap of the important broadcast scripted show news from the fall.
Wonder Years season 2 premiere was pushed into summer 2023, which is a death knell.
A Million Little Things was renanceled and its yet to premiere season 5 will be its last.
Alaska Daily had no additional episodes ordered, which usually is a death knell for a fall rookie show. The producers have said “10 episodes was always the plan”. Your mileage may vary on that.
Stargirl was canceled during its third season and will end in December.
Nancy Drew was renanceled and its yet to premiere season 4 will be its last.
No additional episodes were ordered for CW rookies The Winchesters and Walker: Independence. New CW majority owner Nexstar said “that doesn’t mean they’re canceled”.
Monarch wasn’t mentioned in the Fox mid-season schedule, and no additional episodes were ordered. It’s dead.
Krapopolis & Grimsburg, two new Fox animated sitcoms, were both renewed for season 2 before their premiere. That’s not as strange as it sounds. Production lead times for animated shows are so long, an “early” renewal is almost required to follow a regular season schedule.
“Full season episode orders” or something close to them were given to The Rookie: Feds, So Help Me Todd, Fire Country, East New York and Quantum Leap. Their fates won’t be known until spring.
The current predictions & status for all the scripted shows that have premiered, and some that haven’t, are below.

🤷 What’s up with CW predictions?
Nexstar purchased 75% of the CW network earlier this year. CBS & WB now own just 12.5% of the network each.
Nexstar has a deal obligating them to carry CBS & WB shows on the CW for the 2022-23 season. Nexstar can renew the deal at its option on an annual basis and carry CBS/WB shows longer, but what it will do is anyone’s guess.
