Week 21: East New York Is Likely To Be Renewed

tvgrimreaper.substack.com

East New York is likely to be renewed. That’s obvious because of its ratings. What might not be obvious is why it hasn’t already been announced, given that CBS has renewed its two other rookie dramas (Fire Country & So Help Me Todd). It’s almost certainly because East New York is produced by Warner Brothers (the other two are CBS productions) and it’s on a different negotiation timeline. Fans have no need to worry.

In last week’s news: CBS renewed So Help Me Todd (surprisingly! A miss!). Fox renewed The Cleaning Lady. NBC renewed Night Court, and La Brea (although La Brea looks like a renanceling*). NBC announced that the previous renewal of The Blacklist was a renanceling*, and it will end this season.

In ancient news: Fox renewed The Great North in August, 2022, and due to my cognitive decline I was unaware of it until now.

🤷 What’s up with CW predictions?

Nexstar purchased 75% of the CW network in 2022. CBS & WB now own just 12.5% of the network each.

Nexstar has a deal obligating them to carry CBS & WB shows on the CW for the 2022-23 season. Nexstar can renew the deal at its option on an annual basis and carry CBS/WB shows longer, but what it will do is anyone’s guess.
